Cop Pulls Couple Over For Speeding, Then Realizes They’re Having A Baby

As a North Carolina Highway Patrol Trooper, Sgt. Brian Maynard has pulled over more cars than he can count. Most of them tend to blend together, but one of his most recent stops is one he will never forget!

Sgt. Maynard was off-duty and leaving his family’s home on Saturday night when a car flew past him on the highway going about 85 miles per hour.

The trooper put on his lights and pulled the car over, but when he walked over to the window he realized the driver wasn’t just out for a joyride.

In the car was couple Jimmy and Laura Baker, and Laura was in labor! Jimmy was trying to rush her to the hospital, but the baby’s head was already showing and they didn’t think they were going to make it.

Without wasting a second, Sgt. Maynard put on some gloves and got to work!

“He said, ‘Hey my wife is having a baby,’” Maynard recalled. “I said, ‘Ok, well we’re going to do this right here me and you.’ I contacted EMS. Got them on the way. Grabbed my gloves, blanket.

“It was interesting. it was scary. I just tried to do the best that I could do with things I’ve seen on TV and things I had heard. Relieved that everything went good.”

Thankfully, everything went smoothly and Maynard was able to help the couple deliver a healthy baby girl.

“I just feel lucky and blessed. To have been at the right place at the right time,” he said.
